Glossary of terms of video production

Glossary of key terms in video production (used when discussing the script, filming, post-processing)

We work together much more effectively when the client and the artist use the same terminology in the same values.

1. Pekshot (packshot, «frame packing») — frame with the advertised product or company name at the end of the roller. The duration is usually from 2 to 5 seconds.

2. Timing — duration of a clip or its parts.

3. Casting — casting (live or on video and photos).

4. deadline approaches (deadline) — deadline for video customer (the real one).

5. dobivku (afteshot, aftershot) — short frame following the pekshotom at the end of the video (usually returns the viewer to the events in the movie).

6. Storyboard — drawn frames for the movie (comics).

7. Animatic — video composed of painted frames for understanding the length of each frame and its place in the video. Can contain music, voice narration, sounds comments.

8. Showreel — video, assembled the most interesting shots of the studio projects (or director, operator, professional special effects, etc.). Timing showreel is usually no more than 2-3 minutes. Showreel — a business card creator, movie, which is designed for initial familiarization with the work of the studio.

9. Plan for size — the degree of fineness of objects in the frame.

• Macro (or «super close») — shooting with a large increase in the size of the object in the picture (you can remove a pea on a screen or a pupil in the human polkadra). Used for shooting macro lenses. Such shooting is used to draw attention to important details of small size;

• close-up — head man on the entire frame;
• medium — the human body at the waist or chest;
• General («growth») plan — to display the scene. For example, a person can be seen below the knees or shoes completely enters the frame, several people in the room;
• long-range plan («super generic», «address») — to display the scene geo-referenced (eg, a tiny man in a landscape) or building with several units working machinery and the nature around.

10. Plan for the location relative to the camera:

• front (closest to camera) plan;
• the average plan (it is most often the action takes place);
• Rear (deep) plan.
